Would you like a behind-the-scenes look at the departments and services that keep Hernando County running? The brand-new Hernando County Citizens&#39; Academy is your opportunity to engage, learn, and connect with your local government like never before.This free, educational program is open to citizens that live or work in Hernando County who are 18 years or older. Participants will gain firsthand insight into the roles and responsibilities of various County departments&mdash;from the Board of County Commissioners to Natural Resources&mdash;through interactive sessions, department tours, and engaging presentations.Designed to foster transparency, understanding, and community involvement, the Citizens&#39; Academy helps build a stronger, more informed partnership between the County and its citizens.Class size is limited to just 15 participants, and we kindly ask that all sessions are attended in order to graduate. Please note that photos and videos may be taken during the academy for use in official county communications.Dress will be business casual for all sessions. <h3>Hernando County Strategic Planning</h3>Hernando County is embarking on a yearlong, three phased, process to develop a vision for the County and a strategic plan to make that vision a reality. In order for the research team to engage and capture feedback from all stakeholders, this project has been designed to allow for various opportunities of feedback that will drive the content of the final plan. The entire community, both residents and businesses, play an important role in developing a shared vision in partnership with the County. The community&#39;s active participation and valuable input in this process is vital as we work together to chart a course that ensures our County&#39;s success, resilience, and harmonious growth. This project has been designed to provide various opportunities for feedback that will drive the content of the final plan.The project is expected to wrap up in October 2025 with a formal document and presentation being delivered to the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners. Hernando County has engaged the USF Florida Institute of Government and SPC Collaborative Labs to facilitate this project. There will be many opportunities for residents to engage in the process. Hernando County Strategic Plan

The Board of County Commissioners is the chief legislative body in Hernando County. The Board meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 9 a.m., with the first Tuesday reserved for Land Use Hearings, workshops, etc. The Board meets in the John Law Ayers room located on the first floor of the Government Center at 20 North Main Street in Brooksville. DELEGATION ON GOVERNMENT EFFICIENCY (DOGE) POLICY NO. 45-01 <h2>PURPOSE: </h2><h3>The Hernando County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) wishes to further promote efficient use of taxpayer funds, and transparency in County government operations. The BOCC desires to create the Hernando County Delegation on Government Efficiency (DOGE) as an advisory body to conduct such review and make recommendations to the BOCC. </h3><h2>ESTABLISHMENT &amp; PURPOSE: </h2><h3>The Hernando County Delegation on Government Efficiency (DOGE) is hereby established as an advisory committee under the authority of the BOCC. </h3><h3>DOGE&rsquo;s purpose is to conduct reviews of County government operations, financial policies, and regulations for the purpose of identifying cost-saving measures, improving taxpayer value, and streamlining bureaucracy. The Hernando County Strategic Plan will be taken into consideration by DOGE as it will provide important community feedback. </h3><h2>MEMBERSHIP &amp; SELECTION: </h2><h3>Composition: </h3><h3>DOGE shall consist of nine (9) members who serve on a voluntary basis. </h3><h3>Application &amp; Lottery: </h3><h3>he County shall publicly advertise and accept written applications from interested citizens by a reasonable stated deadline. Members shall be selected through a random and authentic lottery. DOGE shall meet as often as necessary to fulfill its advisory function. </h3><h2>ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT: </h2><h3>The BOCC, through County Administration, shall provide DOGE with relevant County records, documents, and financial statements upon request, in a timely manner, to facilitate its reviews.</h3><h2>DUTIES &amp; REPORTING: </h2><h3>General Duties: </h3><h3>Review County operations and expenditures to recommend efficiency improvements and cost-saving opportunities. Examine ordinances, regulations, and procedures to suggest eliminations or updates to redundant or outdated requirements. </h3><h3>Reporting: </h3><h3>DOGE shall report to the BOCC at least every two (2) months during a properly noticed public meeting, summarizing findings, recommendations, and progress. </h3><h2>TERM: </h2><h3>This Policy shall become effective immediately upon its adoption by the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners and shall remain in force unless amended or rescinded by subsequent Board action. Each section of road worked on will consist of the following:<ol><li style="text-align: justify;">Asphalt will be removed from the road, and driveway aprons will be trimmed at the right-of-way. The cleanout gives access if a need ever arises due to a stoppage or other reason.</li><li>Lateral &ndash; Lateral lines run from the cleanout to the main gravity main that runs under the road. </li><li>Gravity main &ndash; Gravity mains run under the road, they move sewage from the homes via gravity to a nearby lift stations.</li><li>Lift station &ndash; The lift station collects the sewage from the nearby gravity mains where it then gets sent to a wastewater treatment plant via pressurized force mains. The entire community, both residents and businesses, play an important role in developing a shared vision in partnership with the County. The community&#39;s active participation and valuable input in this process is vital as we work together to chart a course that ensures our County&#39;s success, resilience, and harmonious growth. In order for the research team to engage and capture feedback from all stakeholders, this project has been designed to provide various opportunities for feedback that will drive the content of the final plan. Updates will be posted regularly, so we encourage you to check this website periodically throughout this process.The project is expected to wrap up in October 2025 with a formal document and presentation being delivered to the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners. Hernando County Anderson Snow Park Splash Pad:Hernando County&#39;s newest addition to the Parks and Recreation system, a 6,003 sf. Splash Pad. Our Splash Pad has 32 features, a 5,000-gallon underground storage tank, and recirculates the water every 3 minutes. Anderson Snow Park Splash Pad

Project Information:***Design to be awarded at the February 11, 2025, Board of County Commissioners meeting. To watch the meeting when it goes live or the recording, visit <a href="http://www.HernandoCounty.us/WatchNow">www.HernandoCounty.us/WatchNow</a>. ***Due to growth and development, there is a need to improve the intersection of Anderson Snow Road and Corporate Boulevard. The improvements are to reconstruct and widen existing Anderson Snow Road. This improvement will be an interim improvement to set up Anderson Snow Road for the ultimate typical section in the future. Raised medians, with outside curb and gutter, as well as a southbound left turn lane and a northbound right turn lane on Anderson Snow Road. In addition, Corporate Boulevard recently was widened to provide westbound left and right turn lanes. Based on traffic projections, additional lengthening of these turn lanes will be required. A median opening will be provided on southbound Anderson Snow Road at Industrial Loop to help with access management to the StoreSmart Self Storage main driveway access due to the new raised median. Drainage improvements to Anderson Snow will include conveyance to the existing Drainage Retention Areas (DRA).An additional aspect of design is to install a new traffic signal and appropriate turn lanes at the intersection of Corporate Boulevard. Additional improvements include, ADA sidewalks, curb ramps, and new signage and pavement markings, along with HCUD utilities relocation design. Also, Corporate Boulevard will be resurfaced to the Suncoast overpass.<hr>The project has been awarded to DB Civil Construction. Construction is set to begin after issuance of the NTP on July 30, 2025.<h3 data-end="366" data-start="321">🔎 Project Scope</h3><ul data-end="649" data-start="367"><li data-end="406" data-start="367">Reconstructing and widening Anderson Snow Road (interim improvements ahead of a full build-out).</li><li data-end="446" data-start="407">Installing a new traffic signal at Corporate Blvd &amp; Anderson Snow Rd.</li><li data-end="486" data-start="447">Enhancing turn lanes: southbound left, northbound right on Anderson Snow Rd; extending westbound turn lanes on Corporate Blvd.</li><li data-end="526" data-start="487">Introducing a median opening at Industrial Loop for improved access to StoreSmart Self Storage.</li><li data-end="566" data-start="527">Upgrading drainage systems, ADA-compliant sidewalks, curb ramps, signage, pavement markings, and utility relocations as needed.</li><li data-end="649" data-start="567">Resurfacing Corporate Blvd near the Suncoast overpass.</li></ul><h3 data-end="677" data-start="651">💰 Funding &amp; Oversight</h3><ul data-end="843" data-start="678"><li data-end="760" data-start="678">Project design was awarded in February 2025 during the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners meeting.
